Bethesda Southgate

5943 Telegraph Road
St. Louis, MO 63129
314-846-2000

When South County residents consider where their loved ones should reside for quality skilled nursing care, Bethesda Southgate is frequently the first name mentioned.

One of fewer than 20 skilled nursing communities in Missouri accredited by the nationally prominent Joint Commission, the camaraderie and care provided by the dedicated Bethesda Southgate staff is practically unparalleled in the South County nursing home environment.

Activities -- including the Wii!

At Bethesda Southgate, residents enjoy the feeling of belonging. Activities range from therapy to arts and crafts, but the most innovative combination of activity, therapy and fun is the use of the Wii video game.

With continued practice, not only have strikes during the Wii bowling tournaments become commonplace, but so have smiles on the faces of the residents, their families, and anyone else who happens to be in the room during the game.

Meeting Residents' Medical and Social Needs

Whether it's taking a bus trip to see the "Winter Wonderland" holiday lights spectacular at Tilles Park, completing a therapeutic art project or participating in a competitive game of Bingo, there are plenty of daily activities to keep a Bethesda Southgate resident busy.

Special activities also fill the day in our dedicated 34-bed Memory Care Lane, a state-of-the-art setting where our specially trained staff employs the medical community's best practices to improve our residents' quality of life, reduce anxiety and elicit memories.

For example at each meal, Bethesda Southgate dieticians and staff set dining-room tables in "Memory Lane" with bold-colored plates, a "best practice" established as an outcome of a Boston University study, which found colorful plates work to curb weight loss in Alzheimer's patients. The report concluded that colors help seniors with advanced Alzheimer's disease to visually distinguish the food on meal plates, leading patients to eat at least 25 percent more of their meals.

Our interim medical director, Dr. Patrick McCann, can work with the resident's personal physician to offer facilitate medical treatment.

Bethesda Southgate is licensed for both Medicare and Medicaid beds. Our Administration will work diligently to make certain that every residents needs are met.
